During 2012 People in Need are able to raise £6000 to build a Snoezelen in Romania.
2012’s project was to equip another school for children with special needs in the city of Bacau with a Snoezelen.
This school is now up and running, but more equipment will be needed in the future.
Some of you may be asking “What is a Snoezelen?”
The answer is: A Snoezelen is a multisensory Environment (MSE) which brings together a selection of sensory equipment and materials that help people adapt their responses to sensory stimulation and to advance education and therapy goals.
These children in Romania have been deprived of all sensory stimulation, even people talking and touching them. The aid workers are using all the resources they have to reach these “locked in” children. Our aim is to provide them with specialist multi-sensory activities that will help stimulate them.
The blend of sights, sounds, textures, aromas, and motion provide stimulation of the primary sensory systems and may be modified to meet each child’s sensory needs.
