Newsletter 2019

Welcome to the 2019 Newsletter from the Charity People-in-Need ( Worldwide ) Danny Thompson and Joseph Walker.

 

Friday 17th May

Collected van 08-30hr from Perry’s van rental Chesterfield, then continued to Sutton-in-Ashfield to load 15-45hr loading complete.

Saturday 18th May

Departed Sutton-in-Ashfield 15-30hr to meet Joe at his house in Rotherham we load his personal items into the van and make our way to Killingholme ferry terminal and board the Stena Transit for our overnight crossing to the Hoek van Holland.

Sunday 19th May

We thank Stena Line North Sea for a comfortable crossing and depart the Hoek van Holland and travel to Woerden to collect the rest of our load once safely packed and loaded we start our journey across Mainland Europe stopping overnight at Meggenofen Austria.

Monday 20th May

We continue our journey to Romania and arrive in Deva late evening.

Tuesday 21st May

Our journey continues to Ghimbav were we’ve been asked to do some restoration work on the big gate we made in 2000 and was now showing signs of 18 years of hard work, the materials were ordered and we commence our journey to Bacău, to deliver donated items to the Special-Needs school it was late afternoon when we arrived and sadly the school was closed for that day, we checked in to our hotel and called it a day.

Wednesday 22nd, Thursday 23rd May

We arrive at the school and leave the donated items before commencing our journey to Barlad, our first port of call was at the Placement Centre to deliver many donated items before replacing the compressor on the bubble tube machine with a modified version that SpaceKraft have decided to use hoping it will increase its life span.

We then have a meeting with two past presidents of the Rotary International Clubs from Vaslui and Barlad to do an exchange of banners and to have a constructive discussion about future projects.

Friday 24th May

We travel to the Vaslui area of laza Hârșova Mănăstirea and Delesti donated items are once again left and we stay the night with friends.

Saturday 25th May

We go into Vaslui to meet our Rotarian friends who surprised us with a visit to a music festival in the park, it was a wonderful end to an hectic week.

Sunday 26th May

After breakfast we meet our Rotarian friends to discuss our next project, before leaving for Miroslava Iasi.

Monday 27th May

Donated items are given at Miroslava, we arrange the van ready for our next destination.

Tuesday 28th May

We leave Miroslava our next destination is Podenii Noi and Matita in the Ploesti region, the final donated items are given and we continue our journey to Ghimbav arriving later evening.

Wednesday 29th May – Saturday 1st June, Tuesday 4th June

We are renewing the main gate at the Samariteanul Milos Children’s home.

Wednesday 5th June

At 3am we commence our journey home driving 780miles to Meggenhofen Austria for our first overnight stay.

Thursday 6th June

After breakfast we drive 550miles to our friends house in Woerden Holland arriving late evening.

Friday 7th June

Time for some last minute shopping saying thank you to sponsors and giving the van a good wash ready for home.

Saturday 8th June

We thank our friends in Woerden for their hospitality and travel to the Hoek van Holland, and curtesy of Stena Line North Sea we board the Stena Transit for the overnight crossing to Killingholme UK.

Sunday 9th June

It’s back home and the van is returned.
