On our return to the UK in 2014, we wrote that the project for 2015 would be about refurbishment etc, rendering walls and gates in the children’s homes, and taking basic medication to remote villages in Romania, but as time past in 2014 People-in-Need was given confirmation from the Sitwell Rotary club Rotherham, and the Rotary International that they would like to sponsor People-in-Need with a project of our choice.
Another sensory room had been in our thoughts since we had completed the Bacau project but we knew that it would take a considerable amount of time to raise the money needed, and when the offer of help came it was a wish come true, so after talking with a Romanian lady we knew from Barlad she told us of a placement centre that is home to more than 57 disabled children and adults, and they would welcome any help that we could give them, when we informed them that we would like provide them with a touch sensory room, they said that this would be a dream come true,we spoke with the Rotary Club and informed them of the placement centre, and they kindly agreed to the £5,000 sponsorship.

Then we People-in-Need arranged for a visit to SpaceKraft at Shipley Yorkshire to view their range of touch sensor light and sound equipment, the day was spent making the choice and colour of the equipment that was best suited for the centre, and with the assistance of SpaceKraft technical staff the choice was made.
We collected our van on Friday 8th May, from GK Ford rentals Mansfield, then called at Freedom Mobility Sutton-in-Ashfield to collect an electric scooter, that they had kindly donated, and to also load the many donated items they had safely stored for us, this done we then commenced the loading of the touch sensor equipment at our Sutton base.

Saturday night 9th May courtesy of Stenaline North Sea, we sailed overnight from Killinghome to the Hoek van Holland, arriving 09-30hrs, after a comfortable crossing, then after a one hour drive we called at the town of Woerden in Holland,to collect some items that had been kindly donated by our Dutch friends, before starting the the first leg of our journey to Romania, that took us to our First overnight stop arriving at Meggenhofen Austria, on Sunday 10th May 21-30hrs.

Monday morning 11th May 08-00 hrs departed Meggenhofen arriving in the town of Deva Romania 21-00hrs, still a good 4hr drive to our first port of call.

Tuesday 12th May, departed from Deva 08-30hrs our destination the town of Victoria at the foot of the Fagaras Mountains, there we support a Special Needs School and in 2007 we installed our first touch sensory room, and the benefits we saw for the children encouraged us to find other similar projects, on this visit we gave them clothing and some furniture, before inviting the director to a specialist supplier were she and her colleagues could purchase £200 of equipment for the school, our day was almost over and we were given overnight rest at Samariteanul Children’s home in Ghimbav.

Wednesday 13th May.Depart Ghimbav next destination a three hour drive to the village of Podenii Noi and the city of Ploiesti in the village clothing was given along with toothpaste and toothbrushes,toothbrushes and paracetamol ,in the city of Ploiesti an electric scooter donated by Freedom Mobilty Sutton-in-Ashfield was give to a severely disabled young lady and another day is over,our friends gave us overnight accommodation.

Thursday 14th May, we make for the City of Bacau a five hour drive north, for their Special Needs School we had purchased some extra equipment some play mats and mirrors that had to be installed, and large exercise ball ( that had to be inflated ) after finishing the work we check into a hotel had a good meal and a early night.

Friday 15th May, drove three hours to the City of Barlad, our plan is to introduce ourselves to the director and staff at the placement centre before off loading the touch sensory equipment, into a secure room, the weekend was upon us and we had to be in the Vaslui district to make a prearranged visit to friends, it was the fifth anniversary of the death of Anita a lovely friend of 25years, we respectfully stayed with the family till early Sunday evening, before returning to Barlad ready to start work first thing Monday morning.

Monday 18th May, having had a good nights sleep at the placement centre we prepared for the installation of the sensory room, first clearing the room then working out the positioning of the equipment to give the room it’s best lighting effects, a lot of thought has to be given to this decision and it’s very time consuming, had a good day preparing the equipment tomorrow we start the fix.

Tuesday 19th May, all the equipment is in place now it’s time to put in the power supply and bring the sensory room into life, this is very tedious work, for those who don’t understand, main land Europe has a different type of wiring to the UK and use a two pin power supply, and all the power points on the touch sensor equipment are 3 pin, so as not to cause a problem with the manufacturers warranty, we altered two of our multi power blocks so the UK three pin plugs could be used, thus avoiding any problems with the manufacturers warranty, time consuming work but a necessary must. Wednesday 20th May, it’s the big day, and we are up early testing all the equipment ready for the grand opening, at midday we get a quick shower and try to look good ready to met the special guests who are expected at 1pm. The Mayor of Barlad arrived followed by Chairman of Barlad Rotary club, then from Vaslui came a representative of the Vaslui council and the Chairman of Vaslui Rotary club, after being awarded with some unexpected special gifts, Joe and Danny cut the tape officially opening the room, after a rewarding day it was time for bed.

Friday 22nd May, arrangements had been made to meet two ladies from the special needs school at Victoria, and we arranged to go with them to buy paints etc for the school, the ladies where presented with the equivalent of £200 in Romanian Ron.
Saturday 23rd May, Sunday 24th May, took a weekend break!!!!   Monday 25th May, & Tuesday 26th time spent doing jobs at Samaratinul Milos.
Wednesday 27th May, Time to start our journey home, leaving Ghimbav Romania at 04-30hrs  arriving Meggenhofen Austria 20-00hrs a long day more than 700miles covered.
Thursday 28th May, depart Meggenhofen 08-00 arrived at Woerden Holland 19-45hrs

Friday 29th May, gave the van a good wash ready for the final leg home,
Saturday 30th May, relaxing morning visited the town of Woerden for some last minute shopping, 15-30hrs said good bye to our friends and made our way to the Hoek van Holland, were we had the pleasure of meeting a lovely lady Nell Eichhorn who for some 13 years as, thanks to the generosity of Stenaline North Sea, organised our return ferry crossing from Killinghome UK to Hoek van Holland, for which we say a Big Thank You, 18-30hrs we boarded the Stena Transit for the crossing to Killinghome
